Recap and Resources: Latin America and Caribbean Economics and Health Financing Course

From March 10-13, 2015, HFG hosted the World Bank Institute‘s “Flagship Course on Economics and Health Financing for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC)” with regional partner Bitrán y Asociados in Panama City, Panama. Funded by USAID’s Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean Bureau, the course brought together more than 40 Ministry of Health and Ministry of Finance representatives from the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, and Peru.

During the course, the delegates shared their experiences working towards universal health coverage (UHC), and learned from each other’s challenges and successes in developing effective approaches to support the health of their populations.

To make this information more widely available, selected course resources are available below. These include the course agenda, short instructor biographies, and day one introductory presentations on UHC. Additional UHC resources can be found on the HFG website as well as highlights from the course.

Health economist Ricardo Bitrán served as lead instructor and course facilitator. He was supported by Amanda Glassman (Center for Global Development), Ursula Giedion (Consultant, Inter-American Development Bank), Thomas Bossert (Harvard School of Public Health), and Kelsey Vaughan of Bitrán y Asociados.
