Zambia, a low-income country in southern Africa (gross domestic product [GDP] per capita is $336) faces many of the health systems challenges that its sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and low-income peers do. In the hope of improving some of the country’s poor health indicators, including some of the world’s highest maternal and child mortality rates, donors have increased their health financing for Zambia rapidly in recent years.
