Mr. P.K. Ndaitwa, Prof. Monirul Islam, Hon Minister, Dr. Benhard Haufiku, Barry Primm, and Ms. Bertha Katjivena officially launch the 2012/13 Namibia Health Accounts report.

On July 15, 2015, Namibia’s Ministry of Health and Social Services (MOHSS) launched the results of its fourth round of Health Accounts to an audience of over 100 local stakeholders and local news outlets in Windhoek, Namibia.

The Health Finance and Governance Project (HFG) and its predecessor, Health Systems 20/20, has supported the past 3 rounds of Health Accounts in Namibia. Support has included training on the SHA 2011 methodology, and technical assistance, among other activities.

Namibia’s fourth round of Health Accounts, covering the 2012/13 fiscal year, is especially important because for the first time, the Government of Namibia (GRN) committed funds in addition to staff time to conduct the exercise. The additional N$1,000,000 (US$80,000) from the GRN’s annual budget helped fund the local costs associated with data collection and analysis, and signaling that the GRN is positioning itself to build on and sustain
health sector progress to-date.

Minister of Health Dr. Benhard Haufiku touted the report as a major step in strengthening Namibia’s health sector, noting: “The challenge is now to ensure that the domestic financing sources are truly sustainable, equitable, and do not place an excessive financial burden on the people, particularly the vulnerable and poor population.”
